I was reading an email that I receive every day in work from the EU which provides news on debates etc, when an article caught my eye. Unfortunately I can't publish it here, but I used my Google-Fu and found this site: Cotton Campaign
Basically, children are used in slave labour conditions to pick cotton in Uzbekistan, which is apparently the third highest producer of cotton in the world. I sincerely hope none of this cotton goes into the yarns that I purchase. I tried to find out if it is used, but to no avail.

Not just Uzbekistan, either. But it's hard to know, unless you buy actual Fair Trade cotton, and there's not a great deal of that around...
